- Where did you grow up?
I grew up in Alberta, Canada, where the weather is much different than here in Texas. While I have become more accustomed to the heat here, I still find it much too hot, especially during the summer.
- What high school did you attend?
I attended Tompkins High School in Katy.
- What was your favorite extracurricular activity in high school?
In High School, my favorite extracurricular was the robotics club that I was in. I spent a lot of time working with a team to build a robot to compete in competitions, and I had a lot of fun doing it.
- Why did you come to UT?
I came to UT because it was a good school that was close by, so I wouldn’t have to move, and so I could be closer to my family and friends.
- Why are you majoring in CS?
I am majoring in CS because I really enjoy coding. After taking CS classes in High School, I knew that I wanted to keep doing CS going into college as well.
- Why are you in this class?
I am in this class because I have enjoyed taking classes with Downing in the past, and I love how he lectures. Additionally, I want to improve my C++ skills, something that I have been working on but can always still improve.
- What are your expectations of this class?
I expect this class to be somewhat similar to the previous classes that I have taken with Downing. I enjoy the cold calling he does in the lectures, as I think it is really engaging. While the projects can be hard, they are usually doable within the deadline, and pair programming is always a good thing to practice.
- How much C/C++ do you already know?
I know a decent amount of C/C++ from previous classes, but I am not the most confident in my abilities.
- How did you like the first lectures?
I thought the first lectures were good. They were pretty much the same as last semester in content.
- How did you feel about the cold calling?
I like the cold calling system.
- What made you happy this week?
I am happy that we finally get to go back on campus for classes. Virtual classes are convenient, but are just not the same.
- What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?
My tip of the week is to start early on assignments. We have not been assigned one yet, but with all the new tools we are learning about, it is good to familiarize yourself with them early.
