What did you do this past week?
This past week, our group finished up the 3rd part of the SWE project. I worked mainly on the frontend again, getting sorting, filtering and searching working. We had to do a minor overhaul to how we did our model pages in order to get searching working, as well as a major overhaul to our backend API calls, but we were able to get it done with time to spare.
What’s in your way?
Right now, the only thing in my way is just for me to study for tests that are going to be coming up soon. For this class, the final part of the project shouldn’t be too hard for my group. We still have some things to do, but overall, we are doing well.
What will you do next week?
Next week, I will get started on part 4 of the SWE project. Most of my classes are finishing up, so I am getting the last few homework assignments done, and then I can focus on studying for finals, probably the week after next.
If you read it, what did you think of the More getters and setters?
I feel that the paper this week was a good follow-up to last week’s paper, and showed a lot of good ways to practice good coding practices, and I definitely learned a decent bit, although it will take me a while before I can fix my own habits.
What was your experience of SQL? (this question will vary, week to week)
My experience with SQL was almost none, as in my group I worked mainly on the frontend. The bits that I had seen before were mainly watching another group member who was more experienced, so learning some SQL this week was nice to understand a bit more of what my other group members had been doing.
What made you happy this week?
This week, I had a coding interview that I think I did really well on. I don’t know if I will be able to get the job yet, but I am hopeful!
What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?
I’ve said this previously, but do practice for coding interviews on sites such as hackerrank. After doing some more interviews, I can clearly see that the more I do, the better I perform. You don’t get infinite chances at this, so I think this is really important.
